Fortnite Shield Keg Guide: Locations, Price, and Effects
The flip of the Fortnite island in Chapter 3 Season 1 didn’t just bring a fresh map; it introduced a massive shakeup to the battle royale’s loot pool. One of the best new tactical additions is the Shield Keg, a deployable item that completely changes how squads recover mid-fight.
Here is everything you need to know about tracking down a Shield Keg and using it to keep your squad in the game.
What is the Shield Keg?
The Shield Keg is a Legendary-tier deployable item that acts as an Area of Effect (AoE) healing station.
Once thrown on the ground, it acts like a sprinkler, spraying shields in a surrounding radius and restoring up to 100 Shield for anyone standing in range. This makes it an absolute game-changer in Duos, Trios, and Squads, allowing your entire team to huddle up and max out their shields simultaneously rather than rationing out individual potions.
Crucial Warning: The Shield Keg does not discriminate! If an enemy pushes into your Keg’s radius, they will also regenerate their shields. Always make sure to deploy it in a safe, boxed-in area to avoid accidentally healing your opponents.
How to Get a Shield Keg
There are two primary ways to get your hands on this legendary healing item in Chapter 3:
Standard Looting (RNG): Shield Kegs are part of the standard loot pool. If luck is on your side, you can find them as floor loot, inside standard chests, or dropping from supply crates.
Purchasing from NPCs: If you don’t want to rely on luck, you can guarantee a Shield Keg by buying one directly from specific NPCs on the map. The current price is 250 Gold Bars per keg.
NPC Locations Selling Shield Kegs
At the time of writing, there are two guaranteed NPC merchants on the Chapter 3 map that stock the Shield Keg:
The Scientist: Can be found roaming the north side of the Sanctuary point of interest (POI).
Lt. John Llama: Located at a small landmark just southwest of the Logjam Lumberyard POI.
Make sure you drop in with enough Gold Bars, locate either of these characters, and grab a Keg to give your squad a massive tactical advantage heading into the late game.
